I’m Chelsey, the heart behind Chelsey Kae Photography. I’m a mom of three, a wife, and an educator. My kids are 6, 9, and 12, and I truly understand how quickly these seasons of life move because I am living them right alongside you.
Most days, you’ll find me with a coffee in my hand, moving through the beautiful chaos of family life. I know what it feels like to want to freeze time, to hold onto the laughter, the growing independence, and even the in-between moments that feel ordinary now but become everything later.
That is why I do this.
With over 15 years of experience working with children and families as a Registered Early Childhood Educator, a teacher, and a photographer, I bring a level of patience, understanding, and calm that most parents do not realize they need until they experience it.
You do not have to worry about your children sitting perfectly or behaving a certain way. I meet them exactly where they are, whether they are shy, busy, silly, or unsure. I gently guide your session so it feels natural, easy, and even enjoyable.

How my photography came to be
My background story
When I was little, my grandmother gave me a small Kodak camera during a visit to her home. I spent hours photographing tiny details around her property. Flowers tucked into tree bark, snow piled on the deck, old fire hydrants, and anything else that caught my eye. At 10 years old, I enrolled in my first photography class and began learning how to use a camera creatively.
Years later, when I met my husband, I bought my first “real” camera, a Pentax DSLR. At the time, it felt like a huge investment for us, but it did not take long before I was completely hooked. I carried that camera everywhere, documenting everyday life and the people I loved most. Before long, I fell in love with photographing families and children.
Not long after, I joined Edge Imaging
as a school photographer. If you remember school picture day, that was me! I loved the energy, personality, and unpredictability that came with photographing children.
When I became a mother myself, photography took on an entirely new meaning. I suddenly understood just how quickly childhood changes. The tiny details, the sleepy newborn stretches, the belly laughs, the way little hands reach for yours. I felt an urgency to hold onto it all.
That perspective is what shapes the experience I create for families today. I know how much these seasons matter while you are living them, and how quickly they become memories. My goal is to preserve your family in a way that feels natural, connected, and true to this chapter of your life.
What began as a childhood love for photography slowly grew into the business I have today, and I feel incredibly grateful to document so many meaningful stories for families across Guelph and the surrounding areas.
I met my husband when I was 23, "real" camera. I had a little point and shoot which at the time I thought was enough. I choose a Pentax DSLR. It was a big deal! It was a lot of money for us back then but it didn't take long for me to be hooked. I took that little camera everywhere with me and I am so grateful to him for encouraging and enabling this dream of mine. I transformed my focus to portraits and began to photograph family and children. I joined Edge Imaging as a school photographer (remember picture day?) Yup that was me! I loved it! I had so much fun.
When my children came into this world I had a sense of urgency to record every little detail. I always knew children grew quickly. But having my own gave me a very unique perspective. I needed to record it all for myself and for everyone else!
It was then that my passion because a business. I have been so grateful to photograph so many amazing families journeys.

Meet Matt! (My wonderful husband). We started dating in July of 2005 but had met a few years prior to that when we worked at the same sporting good chain. We we re-met a few years after that when my friend was set up to go on a date with Matt. We met while out in downtown Guelph and we seemed to hit it off right away. We bought a little home in Guelph, took up dog ownership with Molly, the Weimeraner. We got married in 2012 and had the most amazing wedding there ever was. We moved to Breslau and had a few babies. He’s an avid cyclist and an amazing dad. He’s my biggest supporter and always makes my (somewhat) crazy ideas come true!
We both grew up 30 minutes from each other, I in Guelph and He is Cambridge, ON and it’s so nice to be raising our family right between the two cities, in Puslinch!

Oh, this was really hard and they all are super tied for favourites. I definitely drink too much coffee. I really want to drink more water, and I definitely know that I should drink more water but instead I find myself nuking my coffee 20 times a day instead.
Fun fact! I used to pride myself on not being a morning coffee drinker. It was so great. I moved into my grandparent's home when I went to teacher's college in 2010 and during my stay, my sweet Grandpa use to deliver coffee to my bedroom door each morning. Because I wouldn't dare turn down such a sweet gesture I quickly become a morning coffee dependent.

My Favourite Things

If you asked me what my favourite things were a few years ago. I would have quickly said my Weimaraners. We used to have two sweet, sassy, stackable velcro dogs (if you know those dogs you know exactly what I mean). Then my children were born and and we unfortunately lost the Weims to old age... Now I have three new favourite little creatures!
These are my kids. Parker, Emerson, and Evie. They are my "why" for everything I do.
We moved from a growing town where houses were squished together and you can borrow a cup of sugar without leaving your porch, to a large property the kids can run around in and we have to hollar for them until they come running. The boys love all things superheros, biking, and roasting marshmallows on the fire. Evie is the sweetest girl and is always checking in on her brothers or snuggling a baby.

What an incredible experience. I had the privilege of having Chelsey do our maternity photos in her studio and it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. I was a bit nervous that I wouldn't know what to do or how to pose, but Chelsey made me feel so confident and comfortable as soon as I walked into the studio. The photos are timeless and elegant and I am so grateful for her serious skills! Not only are her photos incredible, but she is simply a lovely and talented woman both in front and behind the camera. Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone.

We have had the pleasure of having Chelsey photograph many of our big life events; our engagement, wedding, the newborn days of both our babies, and our family as our girls grow. Her fun, flexible, relaxed attitude makes her easy to get along with and provides a comfortable environment for photo taking. She has a great eye for candid photo opportunities and more staged shots that will blow you away (see two examples attached). She turned the photo taking experience into a joint effort - gauging what's important to us and what our personal taste would be while also offering great suggestions along the way. As parents of a newborn, we weren't sure if we wanted to have anyone in our - let's be honest, messy and chaotic - home. When Chelsey came for our lifestyle newborn shoot, she was amazing at working around the messes to capture some wonderful shots that felt like us. She was also great at handling our little guy - helping him look his best and making him feel comfortable. Looking forward to working with Chelsey again in the future! :)
